Hello All,
The KIA ESPN X Games Asia 2009 will take place this year April 30- May 3, 2009, in Shanghai, China. The venue will be KIC Jiangwan Stadium (same as last year). The staff/athlete hotel will be Crowne Plaza Fudan. The sport climbing speed events will be on April 30 and May 1, 2009.
I AM HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE KIA X GAMES ASIA 2009 WILL AGAIN BE AFFILIATED WITH THE IFSC THIS YEAR. THE EVENT, DATES, and INFORMATION SHOULD BE LISTED ON THE IFSC WEBSITE CALENDAR SOON IF NOT ALREADY.
Please note that the speed event will be run the same as this year. The routes will be approximately 17 meters linear, 4 meters overhung, and have a difficulty rating somewhere from 6a to 7a (French rating). The format will still incorporate a practice. A final note -The Speed Event will be broadcast live on TV this year.
The sport climbing staff will include Saxon Johns as course setter, Khaetthaleeya (Kat) Uppakham as women's forerunner, Anthony Seah as head judge, Josh Morris as scorer and assistant organizer, and Jim Waugh as organizer. The Chinese Mountaineering Federation (CMA) will also be directly involved assisting in many ways.
Please see attached file for information on airport-hotel directions, prize money, competition schedule, and selection criteria. Please note that your country may not listed in the selection criteria, but any country can nominate athletes as long as it is done through their respective IFSC Federations. The prize money is better this year so please take note (listed in the attached file).
Nominations should be sent to this e-mail address. Do nominate anybody unless they are willing to attend for sure. When nominating, please use the following format: SURNAME, NICKNAME (IF ANY), GIVEN NAME, SEX, HEIGHT IN CENTEMETERS, T-SHIRT SIZE, COUNTRY E-MAIL ADDRESS -Example James Netuschil WAUGH, Male, 173cm, L, USA, jimwaugh@boulderblast.com (jimwaugh@boulderblast.com). In addition, rank your nominations - Example, #1, #2, #3, etc.
You may nominate as many athletes as you want; however, I, as the organizer, will make the final decision on who will be invited. Nominations need to be sent to me by March 17, 2009! I will then extend official invitations by no later than March 31, 2009.
